Colin Achenbach

Colin Achenbach (HS, College & pro player & assist HS coach)

Colin Achenbach is a celebrated athlete from Apple Valley Minnesota, known for his exceptional achievements as both a hockey goalie and lacrosse attackmen during his high school career. An All-State player in lacrosse, Achenbach showcased remarkable skill, athleticism, and leadership on the field, earning accolades for his contributions to his team. He went on to play at Division II CW Post in Long Island New York and after a stellar colligate career he was the first Minnesotan to player for the Minnesota Swarm professional Box team,. He also was an assistant coach for Eastview HS and co founded Homegrown Lacrosse with Aron Lipkin

In addition to his success in lacrosse, Achenbach was also a standout All-State hockey player, utilizing his competitive spirit and versatility to excel in both sports. He was the first Minnesota lacrosse player to play for an NCAA college team

Colin’s dual-sport prowess and commitment to excellence have solidified his reputation as one of Minnesota’s top high school athletes, leaving a legacy that continues to influence aspiring players in both hockey and lacrosse.

WHAT MADE ME PLAY LACROSSE
All the cool kids did it in middle school. I was new to the middle school. So I tried out. I made team as a manager – first week, 3 kids busted b/c smoking dope. I was immediately moved to the 7/8 team as a player. And then moved forward in the program.

WHAT IMPACT DID YOU HAVE ON THE SPORT
I’ll leave that to others. I think it was fairly significant in MN though.

Nominee’s Biography
Limpert attended college at the University of St. Thomas from 1993-95 where he played hockey

before transferring to Minnesota State University – Mankato and focusing on his degree in

 

Business Administration and playing lacrosse. As a midfielder for the Mavericks, under head
coach Art Ayers, he was named a 2nd Team All-UMLL Midfielder in 1996, team MVP and 1st

Team UMLL Midfielder in 1997 and was selected as to the Minnesota Chill UMLL All-Star team.

Rich lives with his family, wife Heidi, Daughters Annika (19) , Keira (18) and Drake (16)
who all play/played lacrosse for East Ridge High School in Woodbury, MN. Annika is now
playing lacrosse at Palm Beach Atlantic

 

University and Keira has committed to attend and play lacrosse there fall of 2025, as well.

• Attended Whittier College, where he played long-stick midfield (LSM) and defense on the men’s D III lacrosse team .

• Co‑Founder and Executive Director of Homegrown Lacrosse, established in 2003 in the Twin Cities. Under his leadership, the nonprofit has built year-round programming—clinics, travel teams, leagues, overnight camps, and K–12 school partnerships—focused on fostering character, confidence, and community through lacrosse .

• Serves as President on the organization’s Senior Staff team, alongside other key leadership roles .

• Recognized with the Art Ayers Spirit of Community Award (2013), Section 5 Coach of the Year (2010), and the 3M Coaching Excellence Award (2007) .

• Frequently cited by parents and community members as “Mentor of the Year” for his impact beyond the field .

• Currently serves as Head Coach of the St. Paul Public Schools boys high school lacrosse program .

Janet Holdsworth 2025

Player, Coach, & Administrator

Janet is credited with making girls high school lacrosse a varsity sport in 2004. She was the point person for the push for girls varsity status with the MSHSL. Originally from PA, she played both field hockey and lacrosse in college and was a very successful head coach at Hopkins HS and the U of M. Her MN Lakers travel team was also very successful for many years and produced many outstanding college players. She also found time to serve as the president of the MN Lacrosse Assoc. – US Lacrosse Chapter. Janet is now teaching and living with her husband David and their two grown college kids in Morristown New Jersey. She is one of many transplants from Pennsylvania to have a tremendous impact o MN Lacrosse. She is in good company with Deb Wood, *Judy Baxter and *Laura Mark. * All HOF inductees

Howard Rogers 2025

Coach & Administrator

Howard is credited with making boys HS lacrosse a varsity sport in 2008. He tirelessly pushed the MSHSL to make it happen. He also founded and coached the Minneapolis Youth Lacrosse Association and HS program. He. like Janet Holdsworth, also found time to serve as the president of the MN Lacrosse Assoc. – US Lacrosse Chapter. Howard now splits his time living in Thailand (Bakery business consultant) and his Mushroom farming business and cabin in Minnesota. His two sons are in the restaurant business as co-owners of Wrecktangle Pizza chain with locations throughout the Twin Cities and Duluth. I guess the apple really doesn’t fall far from the tree, as both sons followed dad in the food industry.

The Art Ayers “Grow The Game in Outstate Minnesota Award”

Art was a friend to the game and in his memory we will be seeking to fund an award in his name to be given to ny one who is responsible for growing the game in outskate Minnesota. Art is credited with making girls and boys lacrosse a reality in the Mankato Area and coached and funded the Mankato East HS and Mankato State University teams for many years. He also served as president of the Minnesota Lacrosse association. MN Chapter of US Lacrosse,. He will be missed, but now remembered. Art is survived by his wife and four grown children.

This year the annual Art Ayrs “Grow the Game in outstate MN” award went to Allan Safranek who started the St Cloud Tech High School and first youth program in the Saint Cloud area. He, like most program builders. did it for his son with a shout out to Joe Grannis the first coach and SCSU alumni. Every year this award will be given to a outstanding promoter and builder of lacrosse in outstate Minnesota.

The Dr. Dan Ninham “Indigenous Lacrosse Award”

Dr. Dan Ninham, a 2025 Hall of Fame inductee has lead a life dedicated to promoting indigenous sports. An educator by trade in Bemidji, MN, We are seeking funding for the award to honor Dan’s lifelong work and are trying to use the image of the two Ho-Chunk ball players statue in LaCrosse, WI for the award. Dan has been teaching both the traditional wooden stick version played by the Native people of the Midwest and the modern version. He is credited for inspiring others in the Native community to do the same and bring the medicine game back as a part of the Native culture.

This year the annual Dr Dan Ninham Indigenous Lacrosse Award went to John Alexander Hunter who founded and runs Twin Cities Native Lacrosse and is the boy’s head lacrosse coach at Minneaplis Southwest HS. He, was influenced by Dr Ninham’s work and decided to help bring the game back to the Native people in the Twin Cities and Midwest.

Every year this award will be given to either an outstanding Native player, stick maker or promoter of the traditional wooden stick version of the game in Native communities throughout the Midwest.
